The game will take an innovative approach to the <em>ecological transition<\/em>, proposing a participatory and prospective approach to imagining future lifestyles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to allow for maximum social distancing, this <strong>Science Sandwich will take place at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planb-chamonix.com\/\" title=\"https:\/\/www.planb-chamonix.com\/\">Plan B&nbsp;<\/a><\/strong>\u00e0 Chamonix.  In accordance with COVID-19 restrictions, <strong>signups are mandatory <\/strong>(please e-mail hgerardi@creamontblanc.org)&nbsp;and <strong>masks are&nbsp;required<\/strong>.  As a result, you unfortunately cannot eat during the conference.  Plan B is proposing a selection of sandwiches and snacks at a reduced price, and you are also still welcome to bring your own lunch to eat there before or after.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The conference will be posted in the following weeks on our <a href=\"https:\/\/creamontblanc.us6.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=4f8f0b06fe43ecd70f14f15f7&amp;id=4ac3302167&amp;e=47bc1113f5\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Youtube<\/a> channel.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Science Sandwich # 6 \u2013 POSTPONED <s>Tuesday, December 8th<\/s> (In French) <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0<em>Stone pines taking flight: a discovery of the spotted nutcracker &#8211; a bird that gives trees wings!\u00a0\u00bb with &nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/no%C3%A9mie-bugnon-4873541b9\/\">No\u00e9mie Bugnon<\/a>, BS HES-SO in Gestion de la nature<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Spotted nutcracker (also known as the Eurasian nutcracker) survives winters in the mountains thanks to stashes of nuts that it collects from stone pine trees.&nbsp; By hiding the nuts across the extent of their territory, the nutcracker allows these trees to reach high summits, making them the highest tree found in the region.&nbsp; Join us at this conference, which will present No\u00ebmie\u2019s work during bachelors, and discover the highly specialized relationship between these two species.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><s>Tuesday, March 24th (in French).<\/s> POSTPONED to a later date. <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0What can we learn about biology from mountain-dwelling plants?\u00a0\u00bb with <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/seb.lavergne.free.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Dr. S\u00e9bastien Lavergne<\/em>,<\/a> <em>Laboratoire d&rsquo;Ecologie Alpine, CNRS \u2013 Universit\u00e9 Grenoble Alpes<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Contrary to what many people imagine, the high mountains are not devoid of living things.  Instead, they are home to discreet and largely unknown ecosystems full of plants, arthopods, arachnids and micro-organisms.  Join us to learn how studies of these high mountain ecosystems, and specifically their plants, can provide new and unexpected naturalistic discoveries, and shed new light on some of biology&rsquo;s biggest questions.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><s>Tuesday, April 14th <\/s>(in French). POSTPONED to a later date<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Why understanding human relationships is key for coexisting with large carnivores.\u00a0\u00bb <em>with&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/profile\/Lou_Lecuyer\" target=\"_blank\">Lou Lecuyer,<\/a>&nbsp;Institut national de recherche pour l\u2019agriculture, l\u2019alimentation et l\u2019environnement<\/em> (INRAE)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tensions can often arise around the subject of protection of large carnivores (which are known to occasionally attack livestock).  Managing conflicts between different interest groups is key for the conservation of these often threatened species.  This Science Sandwich will draw parallels between a case study managing jaguars in Mexico and the protection of large carnivores in France, challenging us to go beyond technical and biological questions, and dive into human relationships and the tricky subjects of justice, trust and tolerance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Infos pratiques<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll have lots of opportunities to meet the CREA Mont-Blanc team in 2020!
